Since releasing their debut EP Traitor in mid 2010, Inland Sea have gone from strength to strength. The ten-piece have shared their sound with much of the Australian East Coast and left them wanting more. After a very successful Big Sound performance which saw the band gain a stellar review in NME Magazine and airplay on BBC Radio 1, Inland Sea are set to release their highly anticipated second EP, Fortune, in October through Brisbane label Plus One.

Dub Pistols // 25th May

The evolution of the Dub Pistols has been fascinating to watch since Barry Ashworth first bust out in 1996 as fully-formed party animals declaring ‘There’s Gonna Be A Riot’. While their live show continued to whip up unbridled mayhem and build a healthy worldwide following through relentless touring, the records took their own path, moving swiftly on from initial big beat whoopee into celebrations of two lifetimes of musical obsessions, the reggae-punk implications of the Dub Pistols moniker just the launch-pad.

The Dub Pistols formed in the mid-90s out of the chaos and energy erupting from the Heavenly Social-spawned big beat scene. Barry Ashworth had been in indie-dance outfit Deja Vu, who scored with their cover of the Woodentops’ ‘Why Why Why’, while Jason was half of Wall Of Sound duo Ceasefire with noted reprobate Derek Dahlarge.

The pair appreciated the vast musical earthquakes going back to the late 50s when ska was born, determined to mirror their wildly-diverse tastes in similar fashion to heroes like The Clash and Specials, who spectacularly broke out of punk’s confines to embrace other musical forms like reggae. The first Dub Pistols singles appeared on Deconstruction offshoot Concrete, roof-raising outings like ‘...Riot’, ‘Cyclone’ and ‘Westway’. Soon their live shows were turning into much more than decks, DATs and the odd cheerleader. A full Dub Pistols live band booted off, swiftly blowing up in the US while back home in the UK they sometimes had trouble detaching themselves from the big beat aftermath.

1998’s debut album, ‘Point Blank’, helped, hoisting Barry and Jason into remix work which included Moby, Ian Brown and Crystal Method [most recently Lily Allen] plus video games and soundtrack work, including a track for Blade 2 with Busta Rhymes.

The Dub Pistols’ punky-reggae party rages on, now doing damage with one of the year’s most potent musical brews, firing sugar-coated bullets at any recession depression. Their time has surely come.

Willy Mason // 26th May

With a sound that recalls Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash along with the cynicism of grunge and punk, nobody could believe wry singer/songwriter Willy Mason was only 19 when he appeared on the indie scene. Born and raised on Martha's Vineyard, Mason grew up with his parents' love of folk music. He loved it, too, but his teen years brought Nirvana and Rage Against the Machine into his life. Mason found their political and social messages much easier to identify with and soon combined folk's softer and loose delivery with the revolutionary attitude of his new heroes.

Writing came easy now and the teenager had plenty of self-penned material ready when a family friend asked Mason to appear on his local radio show. As luck would have it, Sean Foley -- an associate of Conor Oberst and his band, Bright Eyes -- was driving through Cape Cod as Mason was on the air. Foley was captivated by Mason's song "Oxygen" and left his phone number at the radio station, setting off a chain of events that would have Oberst and Mason hanging out, doing gigs together, and touring America.

With only three people in the audience, a gig at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, TX, seemed a disaster until one of the three introduced himself as BBC DJ Zane Lowe. Lowe was also captivated by "Oxygen" and added it to his playlist when it appeared on Mason's debut, Where the Humans Eat, released by Team Love in 2004. Critics were positive about the album and unanimously shocked that the literate writer and performer of these songs was only 19. Tours with Rosanne Cash, My Morning Jacket, Evan Dando, Beth Orton, and labelmates Jenny Lewis & the Watson Twins increased the fan base and influenced the Astralwerks label to pick up the debut.

Astralwerks reissued Where the Humans Eat in early 2006 with bonus tracks and videos added to the original album. That same year Mason assembled a band that included Nina Violet and cousin Zak Borden, and in 2007 his sophomore record, If the Ocean Gets Rough, came out.

Bad Manners // 4th Jun

Bad Manners, composed of vocalist Buster Bloodvessel (born Douglas Trendle), Louis Cook (guitar), David Farren (bass), Martin Stewart (keyboards), Brian Tuitti (drums), Gus Herman (trumpet), Chris Kane (saxophone), and Andrew Marson (saxophone), were one of the many bands to take their inspiration from the Specials and the ska revival movement in England in the late '70s. They quickly became the novelty favorites of the fad through their bald, enormous-bodied frontman's silly on-stage antics, earning early exposure through 2-Tone Records package tours and an appearance in the live documentary Dance Craze.

Fronted by Buster Bloodvessel (born Douglas Trendle), the band was formed in 1976 while the members were at school together, and among their early incarnations were known as Stoop Solo and the Sheet Starchers. They were popular during the late 1970s and early 1980s, a period when lots of similar ska bands filled the charts.

Some of their hits include "My Girl Lollipop", "Lip Up Fatty"," Ne Ne Na Na Na Na Nu Nu", "Special Brew" , " Lorraine ", " Just A Feeling", "Walking In The Sunshine" and the "Can Can". One of the main reasons for their notoriety was because of their outlandish, larger-than-life, huge tongued & shaven-headed front man. Buster's exploits got them banned from the British TV chart show Top of the Pops(which included dressing as Henry VIII and singing to a blow-up doll for the song "Lorraine", pouring a large can of baked beans over his head, and dressing in a can-can dancer's dress to promote their single "Can-Can"). They were also banned from Italian TV when Buster had decided after a particularly successful concert that he should moon the crowd, having been told that the Pope was watching on TV.

The band retired temporarily after the release of 1985's Mental Notes, only to return in 1989 with Return of the Ugly, in 1996 Eat the Beat was released and Uneasy Listening followed in 1997, as well as several collections from the band's early years.

Graham Norton was the first to champion The Musgraves debut single ‘Last Of Me’ on his BBC Radio 2 show.

A rapport quickly developed between Graham and the band and he invited them to appear on his BBC hit The Graham Norton Show (BBC1 UK). ‘Last Of Me’ quickly moved on to the Radio 2 Playlist, with further support coming from BBC Radio Ulster (Single of the Week), RTE 2FM in Ireland (Song of the Week) and, regional radio stations across the UK. With a ‘Q The Music Track of the Day’ in the bag and a BBC 6Music ‘Record of the Week’ for the infectious ‘So Sofia’, further airplay on Q Radio and growing support from the BBC, Midlands based roots-pop four piece The Musgraves established themselves as ‘ones to watch’ in 2011 via their critically acclaimed debut EP, ‘Lost In Familiarity’.

British Telecom (BT) adopted the band using an instrumental of their epic ballad ‘Discover Me’ as the bed for the ‘Adam and Jane’ TV wedding campaign. With a growing reputation as an amazing live band, sell out UK shows and, a yet to be released debut album packed with huge feel-good pop singles - brimming with 50s and 60s pop/soul influences - The Musgraves are destined for big things in 2012.

There will be a BBQ (weather permitting) starting at 7.30pm so come along early and enjoy the hopefully warm summer evening before the bands start! All funds raised will be going to a good cause, towards a volunteering scheme in Tanzania.

	THE STANLEY BLACKS

Named after a 1950s composer, The Stanley Blacks are an emergent young band from Surrey, England, whose string of guitar-driven, infectious pop songs have forged a strong local following and secured a number of high profile gigs up and down the country. Hailing from the same town as mod-heroes The Jam, The Stanley Blacks fuse the energy of late 70s rock with the 60s pop sensibilities of The Beatles and Motown artists. Yet it is the industrious inventiveness of the rhythm section (Matt Emberson on drums, James Turnbull on bass), guitarist Jon Marshall’s lucid riffs and singer/songwriter Ashley Reed’s sense of melody that forge the idiosyncrasies in the Stanley Blacks’ sound. The result places the band at the forefront of a definite musical lineage, whilst simultaneously remaining fresh and invigorating due to the complex vocal harmonies and assured musicianship of the band members. No strangers to the London area club scene, The Stanley Blacks have just returned from the States following a series of high profile gigs in Los Angeles. The band won over the jaded L.A. music scene with their brand of infectious pop songs and high-energy live shows. The Stanley Blacks performed to SRO crowds at iconic Hollywood clubs such as The Whiskey A Go-Go, Bardot Hollywood, The Dakota Lounge and Molly Malone's. Both Strongholds in Venice Beach and The Viper Room were so impressed by the band that they booked them for multiple dates.

	ACCORDING TO YOU

British Indie rock-pop band According To You are the newest kids on the indie block with their up-and-coming, catchy ‘No Love Lost’ EP. The young band, released their No Love Lost EP last year after winning a local Battle of the Bands contest at Brooklands College. But don’t let their youthful aura put you off; According To You have a very distinctive sound that hasn’t been heard since the 90’s! They are a mix of Blur and the Pulp, with a bit of Jamie T thrown in, and their ‘No Love Lost’ EP contains three songs from the four-piece, who are originally from Shepperton, Surrey, in the UK. Their songs, “Kiss on the Doorstep,” and “Why” have that very unique According To You sound, whereas “One Step Ahead” is a bit more ‘punky’. According To You have been together for four years, and are made up of Dennie Cook, Harry Gough-Williams, Jack Tough and Connor O’Shea. They started playing together at Spelthorne’s Live and Direct programme, which helps young people develop their own contemporary music and performance style, either as individuals or in bands. After Live and Direct, the band worked with The Soundhive, a company that works with young musicians, and this helped the band release their EP. Last year, the band played on big stages, such as Guilfest 2011 in Guildford, where Razorlight and Pendulum headlined, and performed at the Pylewell Food and Drink Festival in the New Forest, Southern England. They have played on the main stage at the 02 in Islington, and rounded off 2011 at the 02 arena in London, where they performed “The December Sessions.”

	DE'VIDE

De' Vide consists of two members : Lexi Lex & Barny Holmes. A New Fresh Innovative Music Group from the UK. Their sound can best be described as a crisp fusion of Hiphop, R&B, Indie and Soul with an acoustic Funk edge. They have a drummer - Matt Gardiner (but he isnt technically part of the group, he just does it when they need him) Their tracks have been played and they have been interviewed on BBC Norfolk several times, BBC Radio 1 extra and BBC 6 music They perform around the UK, mainly in Norwich, Ipswich and London - their largest venue was the 2800 capacity 02 academy in Leeds. And they have got through the initial interviews for X-factor!

	DJ AXON
Producer and line-manager for new legal radio Kane FM 103.7FM.
Holds a drum & bass show Thursday nights from 10 - 12, on rotation with Dispatch recordings.

Kyla La Grange // 13th Jun

"If you think epic, widescreen pop can’t coexist with a keenly felt indie sensibility, then prepare to have that notion gloriously exploded by Kyla La Grange, a fearsomely talented singer who is fast establishing herself as a bewitching live act and profoundly thoughtful songwriter.

Kyla grew up in Watford, the eldest child of hippy-ish parents, and has been writing songs from the age of five. It was only while studying philosophy at Cambridge that she began taking her talent seriously though. There a friend played her Cat Power and Elliot Smith for the first time, “and they were unlike anything I’d heard,” she explains.

“A lot of the music I’d listened to as a teenager was quite shit and always tempered by a need to be a certain style, or sell records. What I loved about them is just how raw and honest the emotions seemed.” Falling in love with their songs was the catalyst she needed to start performing her own music and she began playing small open mic nights around Cambridge. Back then, she explains, “I’d be really self-contained, just be looking at the floor, in my own mind.” Now however, with a full band behind her, she’s as spirited and captivating a performer as they come. “The songs are all from a place of sadness so it’s interesting to me what makes you choose to perform it as well as just write it for yourself,” she says. “I suppose it’s part of that catharsis and that feeling of being part of a pack. “There’s something quite nice,” she laughs, “about everyone revelling in your misery!”

Misery rarely sounds this gorgeous though: Kyla’s exquisitely smoky voice is laid over rich instrumentation to create the sort of songs that seize you by the heart and don’t let go. Her first single was the heartrending and rousing “Walk Through Walls”, as featured in the Independent, the Guardian, the Times, the Mirror, and on countless blogs, including Neon Gold who deemed it “equal parts urgent and visceral… a bona fide anthem-in-waiting for the wistful indie set.”

Powered by Kyla’s extraordinary voice, it’s a track that swells with Arcade Fire like uplift into its chorus’s passionate invocation to “Get up, get up, get up.” When she sings soft and low Kyla’s is a voice of smoky, intoxicating intimacy and one that sets spines tingling when it catches with emotion. She can also, though, soar to heights with the sort of querulous intensity of Kate Bush. Walk Through Walls sounds like elation at its most urgent, but its typically odd and affecting lyrics (“Did you walk through walls, ’til you hit the floor?/ Did you read my eyes, and my aching thoughts?”) betray the heartbreak.

It’s about being broken up and blown apart and wanting to walk through walls to that person, Kyla explains shyly. “When you feel really, really fucked up about something it feels like the whole world churning around in your mind,” she says. “I guess a lot of musicians want to do that with their music – to make it feel so big, like a wave has taken you over and washed you up. I wanted to revel in an epic sadness and get swept up in it.” And as for that huge voice, “I think if you get into the emotion of something enough then it just comes out of you.”

Kyla’s second single Been Better will be released by the Chess Club label, home to early singles from Mumford & Sons and Local Natives. Meanwhile Kyla recently played her biggest gig to date supporting Glasvegas at London’s Forum, and is following that with a UK tour in support of Wolf Gang and a series of festival dates including Secret Garden Party and Bestival. An album is due early next year, produced by newcomer Brett Shaw." - kylalagrangefans.com

Gwyneth Herbert & Al Cherry // 15th Jun

Gwyneth Herbert is an artist who continues to redefine (and defy) our expectations. A singer-songwriter with one foot in the jazz world and one somewhere in the future, with pierrot-dotted eyes, polka-spotted shoes and swanny whistle in hand she may appear as whimsical as a Bonzo Dog, but writes beautiful melodies and has a poet’s grasp of the world around her.

Her song-writing has been compared to Lennon and McCartney, Ray Davies and Janis Ian, while musically her influences range from the junk yard clunk of Tom Waits to the Brechtian punk of the Dresden Dolls and from the minimalism of Steve Reich’ to the banging drum ‘n’ bass of Hackney’s pirate stations.

In just the last few months Herbert has won two prestigious theatrical awards, had them queuing around the block at the Rochester Jazz Festival in New York (where her show was in the top ten out of over two hundred), seen her cover of Neil Young’s ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’ used in a Hollywood ‘rom com’, appeared at Wilton’s Music Hall alongside Sian Phillips and Marc Almond, written a song-cycle about the sea to debut in Aldeburgh this autumn, sung a series of 18th Century murder ballads on Radio 4, and composed and performed a specially commissioned soundtrack to silent film The Patsy at the BFI. But while this breathtaking range of activities reveals Herbert to be very much a 21st century artist able to draw on a formidable range of talents, she remains at the very heart of it all a storyteller with a fine ear for a catchy hook, as her latest single, the charming Perfect Fit amply demonstrates.

Perfect Fit is also at the heart of Herbert’s forthcoming release, Clangers & Mash, a mini-album that draws on the many sides of her musical world from stripped back ukulele strums through recent classics to dark-hearted remixes that present her work in a brand new light.

As Herbert herself puts it: “I wanted to do something a bit different to mark the release of our new single, Perfect Fit, so I scrabbled around for a few backstage scrapings and asked a handful of my lovely and varied musician friends to present some Herbert tracks as they’d never been heard before. The result is Clangers and Mash: bleepy, tappy, pleasureful ear food to tickle your bellies. Tuck in!”

Her vocals which have drawn comparison at times to both Laura Marling and Lily Allen, are the centrepiece of her music, whilst her lyrical content endearingly voices the everyday folk in an interwoven web of love, loss and joy.

Described by Hooligan Records as “a pleasant acoustic folk sound spiced with a London indie twang”, Kirsty’s love for London shines through her music, for it is there that she attended her first gigs, and where much of her inspiration still lies. It’s the stuff of birthday candle wishes and late night fire tales, so sit back, breathe in deeply and forget your worries, this is Kirsty Folan.

	Lorawilbekingsoon
A man once said, “Writing about music is like dancing about architecture”, but if pushed to describe her sound it would be like this: Imagine if Kimya Dawson was English and wrote folk inspired songs with Lou Reed. Then that would be a mildly accurate description of Lora. On stage she has a certain charm, maybe it's her auburn hair, maybe it's her penchant for knitwear or maybe it's because her songs say something to audiences, nothing too loud, but enough so that even the rowdiest crowd will turn and listen. That is something. They say Lora Wilbekingsoon, so go and listen, and join the alt-folk faux royalty on her quest to draw a smile upon the Earth’s face.

The Hype Theory are a powerpop/punk band from Chelmsford, Essex. Their blend of summery pop rock tunes has taken them to the biggest UK festivals including Download, T in the Park, Underage, Hevy and Sonisphere. The band formed in the summer of 2010 after lead vocalist Katy Jackson and Guitarist Sean Bishop spent a year of experimental writing together at college.

The pair then finished the line up with Josh Coombes on drums, Jack Divey on bass and Tom Harrison on Guitar and have since spent the past year supporting bands such as Me vs Hero, Summerlin, Don Broco, All Forgotten, Shadows Chasing Ghosts, The First and Paige to name a few.

In November 2010 the band self released their debut single ‘We Will Be Singing’ which was picked up by Alex Baker on Kerrang! Radio and earned them the title as one of 2010’s Hottest female fronted bands voted by Kerrang! Radios listeners. They now receive regular airtime on the station.

In December 2010 the band hit the studio with Matt O’Grady (You Me At Six, Deaf Havana) to record their debut album, titled 'Glory Days'. These recordings drew the attention of many record labels, but the band decided to sign with Small Town Records in the Spring of 2011. ‘Kid At Heart’ was the first single released through Small Town Records, on 8th August 2011.

The music video which accompanied the single has seen extensive play on none other than Kerrang and Scuzz TV. The summer of 2011 has seen the band play the UK's biggest festivals after earning a place in the final 8 of the Red Bull Bedroom Jam. This saw the band share the stage with the biggest names in rock at Download, T In The Park, Sonisphere, Hevy, and Underage festivals, as well as at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards. Things for The Hype Theory have been moving fast, and with tours booked up for the foreseeable future, there's no doubt that this band are a force to be reckoned with.
