Yonaka @ The BOILEROOM, Guildford, United Kingdom
Following on from a jam-packed and productive year - which started with the band forming, signing to BBC Radio 1 Phil Taggart’s Hometown Records, playing over 30 shows and writing a hugely strong body of work - Brighton’s Yonaka, are ready to make waves.
Last month Yonaka released their debut single ‘Ignorance’ through Hometown Records. The track debuted on Earmilk. This follows their previous stripped rock-pop earful, ‘Run’, which was put online softly last year and garnered support from the likes of Clash and DIY, with DIY claiming it to be a “ giant opening gambit ”. Both ‘Ignorance’ and ‘Run was also part of a limited run via record lovers ‘Flying Vinyl’ in their March Issue.
Yonaka’s live shows have been cause for excitement having played four busy London club shows and a support tour with Killing Joke. The band have just completed their debut headline UK tour and will be playing a plethora of festivals this summer. Yonaka look set to truly be a band to watch.
Gurr is a garagepop band from Berlin that sounds like a trashy 60s girl group meshed with poppy vocals in two voices and a flavor of eeriness dug out from the deep darkness that is the Berlin rocknroll bar's restroom at 5 am.
