The American hip-hop group The Sugarhill Gang, primarily known for their hit ‘Rappers Delight’, are back in England to perform at The Boileroom on the Thursday 15th June.


As the age of Disco drew to a close, music fans around the world were ready for an injection of freshness. In the year 1979 a new urban sound had found its feet on the East Coast of America. In Englewood, New Jersey a three-piece called The Sugarhill Gang were soon to become the forefathers of Hip Hop, as the success of their hit single ‘Rapper’s Delight’ was released, eventually selling 8 million copies, taking them global.

Although the group did split in 1985 they returned in 1994 and 5 years later released their 1999 children’s record ‘Jump On It.’

Some of their recent shows consist of V Festival in Hylands Park and Weston Park in the UK as part of their world tour in 2016. They also played in Hong Kong at the Clockenflap Festival on 27th November 2016, and in that same year plated the Art of Rap festival. By them playing a small shows allows people who can’t travel to arenas to grab a ticket from their local venue and gives them the chance to experience a small show as they have not had the chance to see them in the past.
