Verity O’Connor is a recent graduate of the University of Brighton where she studied Fine Art Painting. She is a figurative artist exploring social and political issues, through oil painting and drawing with charcoal, pencil and pen.
“My work stems from my own personal experiences as a woman as well as listening to and reading about the experiences of other women. I create imagined interior spaces in which I leave implicit suggestions and symbols about what is happening. However, they are left ambiguous on purpose to allow viewers to come to their own conclusions. My intention within these works is to create a claustrophobic and voyeuristic atmosphere to form a dialogue around topics relating to abuse of power and power dynamics between men and women. My practice is heavily inspired by film and within my work I try to create my own cinematic compositions.”
