Not only is today the 10th anniversary of The Boileroom, but also the day we have been included in the council’s list of Assets of Community Value!
An Asset of Community Value (ACV) is land or property of importance to a local community which is subject to additional protection from development under the Localism Act 2011. Assets can be nominated by parish councils or by groups with a connection with the community. The acceptance of the nomination highlights The Boileroom’s work in furthering the social well-being, and social interest of the local community.
The Boileroom has had a busy year, being awarded Best Entertainment Venue by both Surrey Life and Guildford’s Best Bar None awards (see image above), and managing director Dominique Frazer being named as one of the 50 most influential figures in independent music.
Our ACV status is not only an important reminder of the ongoing struggle small independent venues face regarding their security, but also a reminder of the significant contribution these venues make to their local communities, not just in terms of live music, but with culture, lifestyle and the arts – providing a creative and inclusive social space for individuals.
“Being included in Guildford Borough Council’s list of Assets of Community Value, is another step forward for our collective in safeguarding the future of what we do at the hub.” – Dom Frazer
