The Boileroom, Guildford’s longstanding independent vibrant community hub celebrates it’s 10th birthday this year, and what better way to mark their achievement than with a family festival.
Dom Frazer, MD of The Boileroom said “I can’t quite believe it’s been 10 years! We are thrilled to be organising a community festival in our home town, since 2006 we have collaborated with some amazing artists and been lucky enough to work with a wide variety of creatives.
Working together with other arts organisations and local business’s we are super excited to get our first wave of announcements out and we hope the people of Guildford will show us the same enthusiasm and support for the festival as they have done for the venue.”
Working in partnership with many local arts providers, producers and practitioners, Andertons and The Guide 2 Surrey the collective will take over the site on Stoke Park for two days in September.
Councillor Matt Furniss, lead councillor for infrastructure and environment said “With Stoke Park taking a year off from holding major events to rest the park, we are delighted to welcome this new local community family event ‘Always the Sun’. It will provide an event that demonstrates and celebrates the best of Guildford’s artistic, music and food culture at the end of the summer on our award winning Stoke Park. We are extremely pleased that so many local organisations are involved and contributing to making the event happen. The Council is providing guidance and support to the organisers, the Boileroom, to help ensure the event is a success as there are many organisations involvedin making our borough a vibrant place to live and visit.”
As an independent event celebrating music, arts, community; and green living; this family-orientated festival will feature both nationally acclaimed artists and showcase local talent.
Lee Anderton said “I am so excited that Guildford is getting a new family festival this year. Andertons have been working with the Boileroom since they opened and with Dom and her team behind the festival, I’m sure it will be amazing.”
Dedicated stages for theatre and the arts will be represented through collaboration with the area’s leading theatre and arts companies. As part of the Together We Make More campaign we will be celebrating Guildford’s vibrant and historic art scene.
Both days will be packed with amazing experiences including a Wellness Tent hosting Yoga workshops, dancing taster sessions and healthy living talks all from local practitioners. A craft tent with a packed line up of creative workshops including yarnbombing, weaving and tie dyeing.
There will be a fine selection of food vendors selling a variety of culinary experiences to whet the most prolific of appetites.
