This Saturday, 23rd March 2016, Poppy Porter – one of our artists in residence, was painting the Guildford Civic Cow (also known as the Mayor’s cow) sponsored by Guildford Borough Council as part of Surrey Cow Parade.
Poppy won the opportunity through submitting her design of how the cow would look if she won the competition.
Her theme is ‘Neural Pathways’.
We opened from 12-3pm on Saturday for the public to come down and watch the process. There was also an opportunity for young creatives to get involved.
As you can imagine, since the cow was delivered to the Boileroom it has received a fair bit of attention.
We are super excited to see the finished cow unveiled at Surrey County Show on the 30th May.
Make sure you have the date in your diary because it’s going to be a great event!

Come and get crafty at our monthly Craft Club next Monday 25th April! Guest practitioners Peas and Needles, AKA Lucy Davidson will be teaching the basics of weaving – check out examples of her work on Instagram here.
Tickets available from:
This class is ideal for beginners who are interested in learning the basics of weaving on a lap loom. Weaving is a fast growing trend, is well known for its therapeutic tendencies and allows you to play with texture and colour culminating in the creation of your own wall hanging.
The class will cover how to warp up a loom including how to get the tension right. You will learn how to make tassles to give your wall hanging a simple fringe finish. It will cover various weaving techniques which Lucy will talk you through step by step throughout the lesson. You will be encouraged to experiment with colours and textures using a selection of yarns and roving to create your piece. You will then be shown how to take your weave off the loom and get it ready to hang using a piece of doweling which will give your wall hanging a perfect finish.
All materials will be provided and you will get to go home with one small but wonderful weaving ready to hang on your wall. Classes are limited to 15 spaces so please be quick if you would like to book.
Lucy runs a craft and lifestyle blog that has been featured in many craft magazines including Mollie Makes which she has written tutorials for. She is a self taught weaver and crafter and is excited to pass on these skills to other makers.
