#12DAYSOFBOILEROOM – Featuring Palm ReaderDecember 23, 2014

We spoke with Palm Readers Rad Drummer, Dan Olds!

Best Christmas present:
I think the best gift I ever received was an electric drum kit. At first I didn’t like it… For some unknown reason but the more I got playing it and more I got practicing the more I got into drumming and music.

I remember the first thing I did was play the Eastenders drums intro (impressive right??).If it wasn’t for that gift I wouldn’t of wanted to play drums and I wouldn’t of joined the band and had the best times I’ve had… I could of been a estate agent or worked or in insurance so thanks mum and dad

Disappointing presents:
I would never call a present disappointing as someone has taken the time to think of you and buy you a gift.

But there have been a couple that haven’t been used in my time like a personalised pencil case and a foam sword… (Well I did use that.. But it wasn’t strong enough for my skills)

My stocking:
socks and pants. The christmas standard

Most people wouldn’t think much of these but I have an unhealthy addiction to buying Primark pants and socks.

F*ck Calvin Kline. It’s all about the 5 pairs for £2 deal on socks and 3 for £7 on pants. Best pants on the planet… Don’t try and prove me wrong

Christmas dinner:
I wouldn’t mind having dinner with a guy called Shigeru Miyamoto. He created all the classic nintendo games  like mario/zelda that have played a big part of my life

He’s the guy for video games. The mans a genius and I would love to pick his brain about everything he’s done and why. But he doesn’t speak a word of English so it would be a very awkward dinner haha.

On the 12th day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
I’m going to assume it’s drummers drumming… Why wouldn’t it be. They should all be drummers.

But if not it’s gotta be (shameless plug) the new palm reader album “beside the ones we love” … even though it’s not out till next year… Preorder it… That’s true love right there

What’s the best ever Christmas present you have been given?
Lexi: A drum kit
Nicky: a pug (which I haven’t received yet?)
Mary: A book written just for me ‘the whale song’ it’s a book. It’s beautiful
Kitty: Bass guitar case

What’s the funniest and most disappointing Christmas present you have ever received?
Lexi: An electric toothbrush.. You can’t appreciate that stuff when you’re 12 years old. Also the following year I got a duvet and pillows… Especially didn’t appreciate the huge box it came in, which you can imagine to a 13 year old looks like the most exciting present in the world.
Nicky: not receiving a pug.
Mary:  When I went to a secret Santa and I was the only one to not get a present
Kitty: A Steps CD (fml)

What would you like in your stocking this year?
Lexi: Toys to make up for it.
Nicky: A pug… didn’t we cover this!?
Mary:  A gramma phone
Kitty: Too old for presents. Instead I would like Donations to charities that help homeless LGBT youth

If you could have Christmas dinner with anyone, alive or deceased, who would it be?
Lexi: River Pheonix. True legend in my eyes.
Nicky: Springsteen as I bloody love him.
Mary: Prince
Kitty: My Grandad who died when I was 4.

For the ‘12 days of Christmas’ song, would you please finish the line :  On the 10th day of Christmas my true love sent to me……….
Lexi: Something rude. Potentially a bottle of wine too.
Nicky: a puggggggg in a pear treeeeee

What’s the best ever Christmas present you have been given?
If memory serves I actually got my first ever shitty SD cam as a christmas gift. I was stoked! I’d always loved making movies but never actually had a video device of my own. Thinking about it, I suppose that little blue camera in some ways was actually the catalyst for me starting up making videos. Thanks little blue camera!

What’s the funniest and most disappointing Christmas present you have ever received?
I’ve got this super religious grandmother. She’s reeeally into God. Now don’t get me wrong, that’s fine, whatever, people are entitled to believe what they like – but getting a bible for Christmas 2 years in a row (sandwiched with a third for my birthday in May) was a tough pill to swallow, hah. Think she was hinting at something?

What would you like in your stocking this year?
World peace please, cheers

If you could have Christmas dinner with anyone, alive or deceased, who would it be?
Oh man, I love christmas dinner! Best part of the day. Again, don’t get me wrong, hanging out with family’s really nice but… Pigs in blankets, man.. Stuffing, man… Oh god.. Anyway, sorry, I’m getting over excited. For me I think it’d be cool to share a Christmas dinner with those less fortunate. Like cook up a big ol’ roast and head to a homeless shelter. They say it’s better to give than receive and I couldn’t agree more, Christmas is a time of giving I don’t care what you say.

Or I dunno, Snoop Dogg, whatever. That’s probably a funnier answer

For the ‘12 days of Christmas’ song, would you please finish the line :  On the 10th day of Christmas my true love sent to me……….
A message saying “how much for a video mate?”

MERRY CHRISTMAS ONE AND ALL

#12DAYSOFBOILEROOM Day 9 – Featuring Paul PhillipsDecember 20, 2014

9. Paul Philips – Digital Artist

What’s the best ever Christmas present you have been given?
I honestly can’t remember hardly any of the presents I’ve received over the years. Xmas is like this weird memory black hole for me, where even if its something I’ve wanted for ages and ages, once I get it for Xmas it’s erased from my mind. I can’t remember who gave it to me, I can’t remember what I’ve bought for other people, it just gets pushed to one side mentally in the hustle and bustle of the holiday period and then I can’t get it back. It must have been something when I was young though, because when you are old you make your own money and buy the things you want so its no big deal. When you are a kid however its rare to get things (unless you’re a spoilt brat) so you value even the tiniest thing so much more. Maybe Hungry Hungry Hippos.

What’s the funniest and most disappointing Christmas present you have ever received?
I don’t get funny presents as a rule, my fam know not to get me junk or novelty tat because it’ll sit on my desk for a month then I’ll bin it. I can honestly say that my mother has always got me just the right present, she’s very good at putting others before herself so has always got Xmas spot on. So I can’t in all honesty claim to have ever been disappointed by the present itself. Saying that when I was about eight my Aunty bought me an Iron Maiden record and I thought it sucked at the time, not as a present just the record itself.

What would you like in your stocking this year?
We’ll I am a boring adult now so I tend to ask for practical shit that I can use, I think this year I’ve asked for an ergonomic office chair and a camera bag but neither of those is gonna fit in a stocking.

If you could have Christmas dinner with anyone, alive or deceased, who would it be?
If I’m bringing folks back from the dead for Xmas dinner then although the lure of bygone intellectuals and dead rockstars is strong I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t give my first seats to my Grandparents, my Gran would make the best Xmas meal and I’d love to converse with my Grandad now that I am an adult with adult views etc rather than just building lego together. But we’d probably do that too.

For the ‘12 days of Christmas’ song, would you please finish the line : On 7th day of Christmas my true love said to me……….
. . . ‘ get f*cked you’re not the one for meeeeeeeeeee’
